A request was received in the Engineering Office on 10/26/15 requesting the requirement to install sidewalk along Lookout Mountain Road be waived per City of Rapid City Ordinance 12.08.060. A 4’ sidewalk is required to be constructed along Lookout Mountain Road at the time of building permit, with the property having approximately 55’ of frontage along Lookout Mountain Road. The requested variance will allow for construction of a garage at an existing single family residence without the installation of sidewalk in the adjacent right-of-ways.
Adjacent Lookout Mountain Road is a lane/place street with a rural pavement section with no curb and gutter, located in a roadway easement. The nearest sidewalks are located on Sheridan Lake Road, approximately 1 mile away. Adjacent Lookout Mountain Road is void of any sidewalk. The Rapid City Council has the authority to order in sidewalk at any time, should sidewalk in this area become necessary. |
